Bone Broths / Live Brief / Label Development

EXTENDED PRACTICE
BONE BROTHS / LIVE BRIEF
LABEL DESIGN DEVELOPMENT.

Since the company owners have chosen the label that has the pattern in the background, I now have to make the pattern from my own drawings. I want to make them a lot more sketchier and hand rendered to really reflect the homely feel of the company and their product.

I drew out these images all in the same style using a fine tip permanent marker. I tried to add in as much texture as possible with out loosing the composition of each image so it still remains clear what they are and what the relevance is.

When I scanned in these images first time,  the edges and definition got lost slightly after adjusting the background as clear rather than coloured. I decided to print out the scanned in images and go over them again in the same marker to add in more definition.

I scanned this image in again for the second time.

I neatened up the edges of each drawing using the eraser tool. this just gives each image a more refined appearance in removing little effects pick up by the scanner and again keeping composure.

These are the finished images after each were scanned in twice and neatened up. I then started to arrange the different images into a pattern making sure each were evenly distributed so the pattern worked properly.

Reducing the opacity in the pattern helps to keep the main focus on the logo and details on the label.

Because the label is quite small, this pattern did not work on it so I have reduce the distance between each image.

Half of the label has to be printed upside down in order for it to be folded over the top of the spout bag and roll down the back.

CHANGE TO THE LABELING

Nick informed me that they are not legally allowed to say that this product in 100% organic (Something that I had put on the original image).

He asked about what else we could put on the label that would imply organic produce. I sent him back a few different things we could replace the original title.

- 'Organically Sourced Ingredients'
- 'All Natural'
- 'Organically produced'

They liked the 'Organically Sourced Ingredients' heading so I added this in in the same composition as the previous title.

When I first sent over the label, I also filled in a little description of the product and the company in order to promote the brand and give the audience a little insight into the brand and make them feel more aquatinted and therefore closer in a sense.

This was the original type.

I explained that this is something that I wrote up to mainly get an idea of the layout and if they wanted to they could change this type to anything else they wanted.

Nick sent me through the tip they wanted to have on the back of the packaging.

"We’re masters in the categories of nutritious and delicious, and we can’t help but brag that our broth reflects this.

Enjoy our savory and rich beef bone broth which is simmered perfectly for the richest flavor. Use our broth as a quality foundation for your culinary ventures or just enjoy a hot cup on its own; it’s a win either way.

Let your imagination run wild :)"

To me this did not read very well, so I decided to re-write it a little so it flowed better.

At Bone Broths Co.We are masters in creating highly nutritious and delicious Broths and we cant help bragging about it!

Enjoy our rich, savory beef bone broth which is simmered perfectly for the richest flavor. Use our broth as a quality foundation for your culinary ventures or just enjoy on its own in a cup! it’s a win either way.

Let your imagination run wild :)

The guys at Bone Broths were happy with the adjusted type so I added this in accordingly.
This is what the finished label looks like with the new pattern and the adjustment to the type.

They also asked if I could add in the companies website so a added this in at the bottom of the label. I had to play around with the opacity of the background pattern a little to make sure it was visible and the images could be made put, but i also had to make sure that this did not take away from the type or the logo present on the front and back.

I mocked up the label so the Bone Broths guys could see what this label would look like.
